Install Instructions:
You will probably get Netscape as the archive netscape.hqx, which is encoded in BinHex format. Stuffit Expander will decode it, producing the self extracting archive Netscape.sea.
Double clicking on this will bring up a window of legal information, which is a good idea to read at least once before clicking 'Accept'. The archive will install Netscape and a system extension which adds features to Netscape. You will need to restart your computer to make this extension available.
This setup file is not a be all and end all, please also read the Documentation for Netscape that comes with it.
Special note: Don't put all your eggs in one basket! Netscape 2.0 has the ability to act as an E-mail client & a Usenet newsreader, but I suggest that you use Eudora for E-mail & NewsWatcher as a newsreader. Do setup Netscape as shown below for E-mail & Usenet. It will allow you to use Netscape as the above if you choose, and properly E-mail to addresses on web pages. It will also stop Netscape accidentally removing E-mail. |

Configuring Netscape
Netscape will need to be configured as follows.
Preferences: General
Select General Preferences... from the menu Options and the following window will appear.
The main thing you need to set on this page is the Home page Location:
The best page to point this at is your Bookmark page, which should be the file 'System Folder/Preferences/Netscape Folder/Bookmarks.html'.
How do you do this? From Netscape's File menu choose Open File..., find the above file and open it. Then highlight the Location: field, copy it and paste it into the Home page Location: field. Now when you start Netscape it will start at your Bookmark page.
Colors and Fonts contain more options for setting the appearance.
This page allows you to link file types to your favourite applications and add file types if they are missing.
To link a file type to you favourite application select the file type from the menu, hit the Browse... button, & select the application.
Images contains more options for setting the appearance.
To set the Telnet Application hit Browse, find your copy of NCSA Telnet & select it.
By default Temporary Directory points at the Desktop. It may be a good idea to point it at a folder, mine is pointed at a folder I created within the Netscape Folder.
Preferences: Mail and News
Select Mail and News Preferences... from the menu Options and the following preferences can be set.
Mail
In the Outgoing Mail server: and Incomming Mail Server: fields put 'mail.nectar.com.au'.
In the user ID: field insert your own user name.
Select Left on the server.
This will stop Netscape accidently removing E-mail that would normaly be read by Eudora.

In the Your Name: field insert your own name.
In the Your Email: field insert your own user name followed by '@nectar.com.au'.

By default Cache Directory: will point at a folder called 'Cache f' within 'Netscape f' in your preferences folder.
The defaule Cache Size: is 5M. You may want to make this smaller if your hard drive is not very big.
Select Manual Proxy Configuration, and press View...
